I’m sorry to say
“Red Sky” lost me.
I believe this was intended
to be an epic battle tale between Hell and Heaven, between angels and angel-demons.
Sitting here now, I truly am not sure what happened within “Red Sky.”
At the beginning I was
stunned by Ms. Byrd’s writing and description. I was wowed. Then, as in some other epics I’ve tried reading, too many characters and subplots, sub-relationships
crowded in and confused the telling.
I do believe this tale
would have succeeded as smaller books in a series leading up to the massive battle at the end.
As is, there are too many characters to keep straight. Too much was thrown
at the reader without enough depth to understand it all.
I can’t recommend
“Red Sky.” However, given that I know Ms. Byrd originally wrote this
at age twelve, I would like to see what she will bring to her future writings.
Keep writing, Ms. Byrd,
there’s something to your writing that, for me, needs just a bit more polishing.
